On this Monday, you are not alone if your email looks like a war zone. There appears to be a problem with the junk filter in Microsoft Outlook, as users have been complaining online about being inundated with spam that is normally redirected.
For example, @bdsams on Twitter shared what looked like the contents of his inbox, which was full of clear spam. We're talking about obviously phished emails with random-looking subject lines or random-looking body text, or email addresses that look like a string of digits.
We don't know what triggered this, or when we might see a fix. Mashable has asked Microsoft for comment but has thus far heard nothing back. When the business responds or if further developments occur, we will update the story.
A reporter for The Verge named Tom Warren said that he woke up to 20 spam messages in his Outlook inbox and that more continued coming in throughout the day. You can see that Warren is not alone in this by checking out Twitter.
Hallie Rubenhold, a British writer and scholar, said on Twitter, "So many people are trying to get in touch with me at once. Please, someone put an end to this!"
The importance of maintaining a clean inbox cannot be overstated, especially in relation to one's professional life. More information and a solution to the obvious problem are forthcoming, we hope.
